Lär dig identifiera vitmossor i fält och förstå deras ekologiska sammanhang under denna tvådagars fältkurs.
- Kursen ger dig kunskap om hur vitmossor kan kopplas till Naturvärdesinventering 2023 (SS 199000:2023) biotoper och Natura 2000-habitat. Du får en bred förståelse för vitmossornas livsmiljöer, inklusive arter som förekommer både inom och utanför studieområdet.
- Fältarbetet sker i Uppland, ett av Europas artrikaste områden för vitmossor, där 37 av 58 europeiska arter har registrerats inom en yta av bara 20 km².
- Kursen leds av Dr. Charles Campbell, fältekolog med 20 års erfarenhet. Han disputerade 2019 på avhandlingen “Sphagnum limits” och har sedan dess arbetat på Greensway AB med fokus på öppna habitat och myrekologi. Han har även undervisat i bryologi och kärlväxtidentifiering i både Storbritannien och Sverige.
- Kursen hålls till största delen på engelska, men frågor och diskussioner kan tas på svenska vid behov. Den äger rum den 7–8 maj 2025 och vi reser med buss från Ultuna, Uppsala, till fältlokaler i Uppland.

Join us for a two-day field course to develop your skills in identifying Sphagnum species and understanding their ecological context.
- The course covers species recognition in the field and how to link them to Nature Value Inventory 2023 (SS 199000:2023) biotopes and Natura 2000 habitat types. It provides a broad-scale approach to species identification, including both those commonly found in the study area and species more typical of other climatic regions.
- Fieldwork will take place in Uppland, one of the most Sphagnum-rich areas in Europe, where 37 of 58 recognized European species have been recorded within just 20 km².
- The course is led by Dr. Charles Campbell, a field ecologist with 20 years of experience. He defended his thesis “Sphagnum Limits” in 2019 and has since worked at Greensway AB with a focus on open habitat and mire ecology. He has lectured on bryophyte and vascular plant identification in both the UK and Sweden.
- The course will be conducted primarily in English, but questions and discussions can be held in Swedish if needed.
- It takes place on May 7–8, 2025. Travel will be by bus from Ultuna, Uppsala, to field locations in Uppland.
